Vista Landscape Services Ltd. Environmental Initiatives

At Vista Landscape Services we very much consider ourselves stewards of the environment and strive to improve practices and procedures to our maintenance program. As new technology, products, and information becomes available, we have taken the following steps as we pave the way to protect the environment.

Plant Health

Our key approach is to eliminate or reduce the need for herbicides and pesticides. Through our organic approach in fostering the best health of the plants, turf, and trees, we recommend mulch applications to garden beds and our specialized product Turf Shark to the lawns. This is very much a ground up approach. You can find more information and pricing on these applications in our proposal contracts.

Weed, Vegetation and Pest Control

Vista Landscape Services follows the IPM Integrated Pest Management practices “a decision-based process involving coordinated use of multiple tactics for optimizing the control of all classes of pests (insects, pathogens, weeds) in an ecologically and economically sound manner”. This implies the following:

  • Simultaneous management of multiple pests through prevention first (proper horticultural practices of hand pruning vs. shearing where applicable, hygiene practices, and recommendations of mulch)
    • Regular monitoring of pests, and their natural enemies and antagonists as well
    • Use of economic or treatment thresholds when applying pesticides (organic and chemical)
    • Integrated use of multiple suppressive tactics like mechanical control measures first, with the resort of using organic or chemical applications as a last resort.

Equipment

Our conversion from gas-powered equipment to battery-powered equipment, where practical and effective, has been the biggest game changer in our operations. As the industry is constantly improving these pieces of equipment, we have implemented these into our regular operations to provide all with a quieter landscape maintenance experience, as well as reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.
